Should have brought some mopiko
We have this tradition of spending a day to celebrate anyone's upcoming or already-here birthday with the clique, all taking out time to have fun. And we usually choose to have a picnic cause it is fun, cheap and has lots of bonding time available, though we don't really need the last point. So yesterday we celebrated Sam's upcoming birthday at the Botanic Gardens. That place is pretty magnificent. There was not so much sun because of all the tall trees, the place instantly becomes shady. There were tons of pavilions to hide away from the rain and still continue eating. The air was fresh as can be with all the plants constantly photosynthesizing. I liked it very much. Oh but I hate the people there. Here's why. We were chilling at this pavilion nearest to the entrance AND the swan lake and we were still eating the beehoon Sam's mother prepared for us when this army of Girl Brigade decided to rest there along with the old people they are duty to take care of. I mean, it's okay if they are just rest but the amount of people kept multiplying and the pavilion itself was too small. And when some girls left to split to two pavilions, you know they did not even plan the amount of pavilions they need or where exactly to rest their feet. So after an hour of complete awkwardness, I couldn't stand it and asked the girl sitting behind me if they are here for long and she replied, "I don't know". How the fuck would you not know what's next?! I think I would have an idea if I were her that, oh, we are waiting for the bus. Or oh, we are going to have lunch here. Is she stupid? How did she get all her badges from? We sat there with continued awkwardness for the next ten minutes until this teacher-in-charge came over and asked for 6 girls to follow her and get the lunch. We all started packing as soon as we heard that and the teacher-in-charge stayed there. I seized the chance to complain at a volume she could hear about the poor arrangement of this CIP project. I mean come on.
Thank goodness things came around after we found a new one. Though there was this bunch of irritating China tourists who kept staring at us playing Monopoly Deal with the most disgusting eyes. It's tragic, please. But they left soon enough so it was fine.
We ate pretty much a lot, which is pretty shocking because picnic usually isn't very filling. So we eat quite little during dinner at Holland Village's Crystal Jade. But it was good because it cost us $11 each, with change. It was a fantastic celebration overall. And I am thankful to spend my off-day like that.
