Ugh, excuse my sexual frustration
I am not a Trekkie. I am not well-educated on the subject of Star Trek even though I have watched a short clip of the vintage one where the two rivaling planets were communicating. I didn't have any strong emotions about it because the whole time, I was just trying to figure out what the Klingon language was. But alas I failed. So that was my first and, until last evening, last interaction with Star Trek.Nevertheless, I entered a contest on United International Pictures Singapore's Facebook page and managed to win myself a pair of tickets for the 3D premiere of the 2nd installment of the rebooted movie franchise. Of course, the only reason why I had entered the contest was Benedict Cumberbatch. I watched every press interview there is with him inside and even though I am not a Trekkie, I kind of knew everything that goes on in this movie. Honestly, I didn't have a dying urge to watch it, not because I assumed it was a bad movie, simply because it is not what I usually watch. But I still got pretty excited when the email of confirmation came, because I always told myself to watch something J.J Abrams and this would be my first; with a bonus dose of Benedict freaking Cumberbatch in it. So I brought Wei Ting along with me to the premiere after school. It was quite funny because prior to the movie, I was getting my work front on and facilitating a project work in the school library. That project was a killer, by the way. It weighed my mind down throughout the day because of the sheer amount of categorizing to go through in my head. Then at the final few minutes of the discussion, I sorted everything out and related my idea to them in my fastest speed of explaining my reasons as it comes in my head. I was told I was behaving like some scary lecturer... But at least I had that out of my mind before the movie. Because what could be worst than watching a 3D movie with a heavy head? Anyway, back to heading for the movie. It was my first outing with Wei Ting and I was honestly skeptical about how it might turn out. I am always skeptical, no offense to anyone. I had doubts whether we would have to fill awkward silence. But it turned out greater than I expected. I had a lot of fun talking to her, so much so the words just flow when we speak because it felt comfortable. I was warning her how I would probably squirm and squeal whenever Benedict comes on screen and also whenever he speaks. And she told me how she would probably ask a lot of questions, which she did though it wasn't irritating or anything. And even when she was commenting at inappropriate times, she shushed up when I shushed her. She was commenting about something during an intense scene when everyone in the theatre was quiet and the mood was low and I couldn't help but giggle. Comments from someone who knows nothing about the fandom is the funniest. The movie was spectacular, by the way. Have everything so up close through the glasses was a huge plus. Benedict was extra delicious being all bad ass and stuff. And his voice could not be sexier in that "deeper than usual" manner. The movie was not what I expected which was rather surprising. It's a good-surprise. And I liked being surprised. It kept me on the edge of my seat and that was exciting. It was a witty and smart action-packed movie and despite the fact that both Wei Ting and I have no prior knowledge to the franchise, we absolutely loved the movie. I am so glad to have joined the contest and winning the tickets to such a blockbuster. To be watching it after a tough day in school really takes the steam off you. Now let me see the world love the movie as much as I love it. Labels: benedict cumberbatch, movie |
