Purely pain
Yesterday was the hectic last day of work. I had a huge order than requires me to be in front of the oven for 3 hours straight. And that also means that my idiotic boss would be there to "assist" me. Honestly, she was a mess. I had three ovens on, which means three trays of piping hot plate in them, so I purposely prepared three egg crates to hold them so they don't burn the wooden tables. I had two tables open so I specially made one to be "The Preparing Table" and the other "The Hot Plates". So that everything was in order. Until she appear. She got me to take out a piping hot plate and changed its supposed location like twice. And mind you, it is fucking hot and the plate just gets hotter and hotter the longer I hold it in my hands. And she was just in my way and all, doing everything to mess me up. My poor, poor hands. Seriously. I had the flavours down to make sure what I was baking in what tray, and she is just blind to check it out herself. Bloody hell. And she messed up the topping a couple times. Which is frustrating cause at the end of the day, blames on me. The rest of the day was just really poor sales. Until 3.40pm, which is really just 1 hour 20 minutes away from my last minute of work. A sudden surge of beings just wiped out the entire cabinet and I was left with tiny selections. Which means I have to bake again and that takes at least more than an hour. I had to work overtime for my last day of work. LAST DAY OF WORK. Major cries. So I had to rush the trays. Total frustration emitting from my body please. So It's over. It's all over. Let me rejoice a little. Labels: work stories, working Posted Thursday, September 13, 2012 // 8:52 pm
Periods are worse
My job is already giving me hell and my period decides to come right at this point. Despite my telepathing it to not. Yes I silently talk to my body, it sends direct signals to my brains. -shrug-But job haven't got too tough, yet. I'm putting the yet there cause there are some orders tomorrow and Saturday, and I'm not looking forward to nonstop for more than three hours in front of a hot oven that causes clogged pores and oily yet dry skin all at the same time. With that annoying thing that my body does by being my body. Ugh, double ugh. 2 more days, 2 more days to the end of work, and maybe the end of the time of the month. Anyway, moving on the funny work stories that aren't funny to me but to you cause you like to see people burn in hell with misery. Let's start with this guy who was outside of the shop talking on the phone for two hours straight. I was doing my thing inside and whenever I turn my head to check out what's outside, there was this dude who was half-talking-half-arguing on the phone. I am not exactly sure what he was really doing but I do know there was a lot of hand gestures. All I know is that he honestly was just outside of the shop for the longest time ever gesturing with his phone glued to his ear. It was odd as hell. Oh and there's another weird behaviour story whom I observe while being enclose my the shop of torture. Okay it needs a little back story. My shop have this huge poster art (?) that talks about how good the food is and the publicity it got before and all, and I have to admit it does help the sales. So today I saw this trio who walked past and turn to the postered glass and I was checking out their reaction. But I slowly realised that they are just looking at their reflection while walking past. And I was like "REALLY? ARE YOU THAT VAIN MISTER AND MISS?" Okay my boss is still mental as hell. She keep laughing over matters that isn't funny over and over again. Today I told her the girl who was working the night shift was coming to work earlier and her face instantly changed to this irky shade of grey. I think she thought that she would have to pay double for two people when oh my god, why would I stay there longer if I can scram. Then when I explained she just went, "Oh okay good lah, you work things out lah. (laughs) As long as there is some one out here. (laughs)" My face was giving my most honest, woman-you-are-no-where-near-funny. Other than that she didn't really appear. I did go and find her to get some stuff and her reaction and movement always make me wanna laugh. She would rush here and there even when she just just getting me some change. She would really quicken her footsteps in a tiny office cubicle that is as big as a regular bathroom in an HDB apartment. Oh yes there's this customer who is probably 60 years old and she is just this regular old lady who sticks to what she knows all the time. So she always buy the same stuff. Her bill always total up to $10.80. And today she gave me $50.80 and place it on the counter. I was taking it off the counter when I felt a palm moving closer and closer to my face and she was saying in Chinese, "Four, four". Then I realised that she is talking about the change she was suppose to get and I'm like, "Patience, woman". Forget it. Two more days. Tarty
I am gonna miss movies that I promised myself I should watch from the beginning of the holidays. That is a sad, sad thing for me. Cause I love movies. Movie buff. More like movie un-buff. But a great thing is that I crossed off a lot on my list of things to do. I am currently challenging myself to watch more than 10 movies now. Cause I watched WAY more than five movies from the day I wrote that list. I finally got myself to watch I Am Sam. And yes, Sean Penn broke my heart. And I am almost certain that Dakota > Elle. Judge me, whatever. By the way my hands and the back of my knee is giving me hell. I hurts to lift things that weigh simply 10 grams. And I can't squat ever, or kneel. Doing that makes me cry of pure pain and hurt. Ouch, fucking ouch. I just stretch my finger to press delete with my pinky. Okay I have no funny or infuriating work stories for the time being. Cause my mental boss stayed in her office throughout the day for the past few days. Especially on Saturday, she practically stayed inside the kitchen even when it was her lunchtime. I was surprised, but happy, duh. There was this new girl who just came in while I was working to ask for a job. I honestly was o.o Okay lemme get her. And she was hired like two days later. And she loves her job, which is totally unreal to me. She is nice though, and she is so nice that she offered to come to work earlier to let me leave earlier. Bless that woman. But weirdly enough, she still don't hate my boss. :/ Nevermind, 6 more days. Labels: movie, work stories, working Posted Tuesday, September 04, 2012 // 9:23 pm
Burned to a light shade of purple
Being in front of an oven has left my face dryer than ever, yet oily at the same time. I think I would have the worst skin of all times after these two weeks. I tell myself with clenched fists everyday that it will just be another few more days. Figure right now is 10. I am so close to a single digit.I burn myself pretty frequently during work. It fucking hurts. And my fingernails are of the oddest colour right now. It's purple further inwards and skin colour at the tip. Talk about having ombre nails. For me it just effortlessly appear with pain and sufferings. Okay more stories about my work. This time about a customer. Yes I've had a psycho customer. It was this grandmother who wasn't very old along with her daughter and grandson. She came into the shop and asked if we sell bread. When all you can see is egg tarts and canned drinks. My face was plastered with a smile even though I really am laughing at her in my head. She went ahead to sit at the seats provided without ordering anything and discussed where they can go to get lunch when it is already two and I've already told them that there are food court just across the road. I think motherhood does make people less motivated to leave anywhere. That shall me one of my proven laws. Anyway, the grandmother eventually bought an egg tart, but it was after countless complaints of treats that are too sweet though she never tried any of our things before. And after she was done with her tart, her daughter contemplated to have one too and she just went ahead to judge the rest of the flavours. By the way, she picked the apple cinnamon one which in my opinion is a tad sweet than most of the flavours. So I really just wanted her to leave. But NO, she had to bring her grandson who was starting to make A LOT of noise BEHIND the counter to where I was to show him the action of me wiping the tart moulds. Really bitch, really? First of all, behind the counters is KNOWINGLY off-limits. Second of all, what benefits can he have seeing me wipe the cups? Is he able to help me? Is it that interesting of me to wipe noisy metal cups that he has to shout plus cry right next to my ear? There's an imaginary line, don't cross it. Okay now on to the mental chronicles of my boss. Here's the deal about my boss. She speaks English but it's the poor kind that you obviously know that she being to learn in her mid-twenties/thirties so her texts are often a little weird. For the first few days, she pronounced my name perfectly fine, but lately it evolved to "Ah-li-sia-ah". 3 syllables to 4. When she started off fine. I guess she kind of know that the way she pronounced it got odder and odder, either that or she caught me rolling my eyes whenever she says my name wrongly, she asked me to correct her and that scared the shit out of me. Turns out she just wanted to ask if I wanted to take the damaged goods home since it's either that or throw away. Thank god for free food. She still criticise everything I do and I just rolled my eyes secretly whenever. But I try to cut down on it cause when I do, I might spill the batter thing or the toppings fall off or I burn myself. That would result in further reprimanding. So yea. But you know what peeps? 10 more days. 10 more days to freedom. You are talking about it
My job sucks. It is too boring and too much slackness involved. It's basically cashiering, baking of tarts, and wiping of the tart mould/tray. It is seriously just that three things to do. The toughest being the baking that honestly, isn't that tough. Just that it can get seriously hot in the oven and I fucking have low tolerance for pain. And damn myself for not taking care of my body or working out throughout the year cause here comes my backaches and shoulder aches that I barely manage to remove from dance and stage training during my time in CTSS. I hate my boss. She is really naggy and the small talks that she tries to make with me always link back to my lack of experience in this job (which I have been doing for only three days) and also my poor performance in the baking area which honestly, isn't even that bad considering I have not burn anything yet. The customers are all nice and fine so far. I manage to have tiny conversations with some just to feel less alone at the shop front where I spent about 9 hours in. Nobody made a crazy fuss or made my life difficult, yet. There is this one customer that tried to ask for the recipe of the egg tarts my shop sells, but honestly, I don't even know why she bother cause I had better. WAY better. But no, no, this isn't a story about a crazy customer, it is a chapter from the mental chronicles of my supervisor. She claimed that the lady is trying to steal their "secret" recipe, and keep mouthing about her nationality badly, and incorrectly too (the lady is more likely a Japanese, yet my boss keep saying she is Korean). Frankly speaking, the egg tart is not that good, pretty overpriced in a way and not that much of a secret. -shrug- The job is not unreasonably tough, it's just so quiet in the shop that my mind boomed the voice in my head speaking. I can't multitask cause I can't possibly bake and wipe the cups at the same time, I will burn the fuck out of my hand and the product would be possibly inedible. It lacks the challenge that I figured jobs suppose to have. But anyway, it is a 2-week thing (really it is a 15-day thing) after all. Let's see how much of the chronicles of mental boss adds up to. And I realise the reason why I constantly look for jobs that is temporary is because I have major commitment issues. I am basically Chandler Bing. Only to correct
My godmum have this tendency of overreacting and telling the whole world about the issue she can't get over. And I am usually the cause of that because I tell her most of the issues she obsess over.So a couple of days ago, when I was still working, there was this lady all decked up in designer clothings coming over to our booth and wanted to buy some 10-feet mutha-fucking tree when the biggest size we have is 8-feet. I recognise her because she came over a day earlier asking for the same things only to leave eventually saying that another place has 10-feet trees. I served her, of course, since I recognise her and everything. And she bought the ornaments plus the trees, naturally, and spent over $2100. Now here's the issue. By right, I am eligible to obtain 21 points of commission. And that is equivalent to $21 extra added into my paycheck. But there was some conflicts saying, "Oh the sales belongs to the company. You can't have it. I need to check." Fair enough. But I didn't go the work immediately the next day and the day that I did, it was my last day of work. So I was informed that I legit-ly do not have the commission because of the same old, fucking challenge-able reason. Here's the deal about the commission. I work at what you call a sweatshop. Every tree/$100 worth of ornaments, I get one point, which is equivalent to one dollar. So I am earning 1% of everything I manage to sell off. Don't get me wrong, I am pissed as hell when I didn't get the 21 points I am supposed to have. I mean really, come on, "the sales belongs to the company"? If it does, I don't, isn't it? I am working for the company, the sales belongs to the company BECAUSE of me. Because I served her from beginning till when she swiped her pretty VISA card and signed her pretty receipt. I am simply earning 1% of your "company" sales, is that too much from all the trees you are selling this Christmas? But then again, I am just glad it's the last day of work and I no longer have to return to the work place and continue earning measly amounts. When I told my godmum, she flared. I swear, if she were to be fluent in English, she would be dialing the MOM number and complaining about how they just cheated my effort and work. But I eventually manage to cool her down and keep her away from the phone. Then, she told my godbrother. Now let me tell you about her sons, mainly her eldest one. He, well, he is one complain-y chauvinist. He complains about the government, about Singapore system, and refuses to let his girlfriend talk. I don't even understand why his girlfriend stick with him despite his bitching. He bitches even worst than a girl. He never really bothers me, or my sister, for the matter. We never really cross paths. He just really knows that I hate it when he starts talking politics. He never ask me about school, never ask me about work, and I think he probably didn't know I worked until my godmum told him about the above incident. After learning about it, he started being all concerned and interested in my situation. Now, I know this stuff. He is not interested in my issue, he is interested in filling me in about how he thinks and his reaction if he was in my issue. And it's fake as hell. He should really hide his pretentious concern. 16 years of not crossing paths and now he is telling me what to do. He never even advice what CCA or what subject I should take and now he is interested in my working issues. I am disheartened at the world a little. I'm not going to include photos cause that's not what you ask. By the way, this is a reply post to the sweet first person who answer the post that I have put up on my blog. But I don't understand why you ask this question, I regularly post about the terrible customers that work leave me flabbergasted. But anyway, I have new customers who did the things that drive me mad so let's start. There's this Japanese lady. She was touring about our booth for the longest time ever and I was desperate to earn my commission. So I just went over. Boy was I in for trouble. She took the longest time to decide what she wants. She probably spent an hour just deciding what she wants, and that does not include her touring about our booth for like forty minutes or so. If you want to have an idea of how long she takes, just think about the last person who frustrates you with their decision making and double it. I was so annoyed that I just tried to hurry her by choosing the ornaments for her. Let me tell you, even when she "Oh....!", it takes about 5 seconds, literally. 5 seconds can pissed a lot of people off. I mean, we usually use one third of a second to understand something. What's more, her husband is just like her. So the entire serving process took triple the usual time we do for a customer who can't make up his/her mind. It was just mind-blowingly annoying. She eventually didn't help me earn my commission too. And she was a pain in the ass. Labels: ask me anything, work stories, working Posted Saturday, November 26, 2011 // 9:18 am
It really does
My heels hurts as hell and I practically hobble my way home daily. Stupid Healthcare centre that blocks the shortcut to IMM. It's tragic, really. To renew the pain on a daily basis.Work stories to share again! So yesterday, there was this bunch of office people looking at trees. I didn't really approach them full-on because I know they are just survey the trees to return and discuss with their boss, so I just casually remarked the heights. I always knew that office people have a budget when it comes to buying Christmas tree, but this particular group wanted to get a tree at $20. You can just see my face judging them slightly as I replied that we don't have such tree. So I was walked another direction hoping the prices will just repel them eventually. But unfortunately, they spotted our $57 potted tiny Christmas tree at a corner and approached me again. So I just said that's $57 and the guy who asked me backed off. But, another guy who obviously did not get the idea of the price of the Christmas tree approached me and this is how our conversation went: Let's call him OG(Office guy)OG: Excuse me, how much is that tree?A: $57.OG: That short one over there?A: $57!OG: That small golden one? (start gesturing its height with him hand)A: Ya, $57!I'm like, no matter how many times you ask, the price won't go down! Another angmoh guy was looking at the lights and decided that he shall take the clear colour one. But after his wife joined him, he told me he's going to "grab a burger" and left. Now, I understand it's dinnertime and people are hungry, but how long does it takes to grab a bloody burger that he never returned?! People like that infuriates me. Oh I sold a tree to this adorable young girl yesterday. Usually I don't go over to serve parents with kids cause they either are just introducing Christmas trees to their kids or marveling that the Christmas decorations. So I was resting my heels yesterday when this young girl stood next to the cashier staring at me. I turned to face her cause she was just staring and not speaking and it took me 3 seconds to respond an "oh" and follow her as she ran to point to me which tree she wants. It was a silent deal. She was silently choosing everything she wants, the tree, the ornaments, the star to put at the top of her tree. She is so cute. Joyce thinks that whatever escapes my mouth is nonsense. >:( That's just mean. I was making weight jokes with Joyce and she was making height jokes with me. The feeling was mutual. Oh my, Joyce is so cute. Labels: christmas, work stories, working Posted Tuesday, November 22, 2011 // 8:12 am
Is probably my blog
I had an awfully long week of working these few days, from noon till night. It was tough. But at least the business was fine. I saw A LOT of familiar faces just by standing the booth. From our school, mostly. It was... exciting. So I had been working over the weekend and the business was fantastic. It was awesome. But on weekdays, the business wasn't as fantastic, good news is I can go home earlier. I might as well just share some weird work stories that I encounter during work. There was this guy who was staring at this 7ft feet really intensely. So I walked over to introduce his the tree, only to get a response if we sell black trees. I led him to the black tree displays and he started commenting about how black trees equals to forest fire. You can just see my face giving the so-why-did-you-ask-me-about-black-trees-moron smile. Later, he started rambling about how Christmas trees has nothing to do with Christ and everything fucking thing about Christianity which has no reference-whatsoever with the trees I am trying to sell. It was fucking terrible and I was just upset. He even introduce me his church that I have absolutely no interest in even visiting. Please, I don't even know your name and I have to "give myself a chance" to go to your dumb-ass church just because you say so? People like him makes me a fucking Atheist. There is this other woman who was choosing her roll of ribbon to make it into the bouquet that we offer for free. She was the most cheapskate person ever and she hardly spent a single cent on anything other than the cheapest and tiniest ones. So she finally picked a thin golden one which we already warned her that it might not turn out right because it is too thin. But she insisted she wants it because it would be hanged at her door only. Customer is always right, after all, so we made it. Halfway through she kept prancing about the ribbons section and she picked another roll which is purple and thicker. Now, the purple one is $2 more expensive, and she simply put it on the cashier after choosing it, so naturally we made another for her. Little did we know, she was actually exchanging because she didn't like how the golden one turned out. Now we can't possibly sell opened ribbons to other customers right? Moreover, her golden one was $2 cheaper, so she definitely had to top up the remaining two bucks. She wanted to just take the purple one and walk away. That is just fucking ridiculous. She is a terrible, asshole and bitchy customer all in one, who insisted on her right even though she is clearly in the wrong. We just let her leave with the purple one eventually. But she later returned to accuse us of not handing her some stupid-ass ornaments with this crying tone in her voice as though we are bullying her. Hold up bitch, who is making the scene first? And after we thought she would never return, she came back with a red star. So apparently she is making a purchase. We were just so sick of her shenanigans that we just shove it in a plastic bag with nothing else and pray that she leaves as soon as possible. The work was fine without these kind of people.
